WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Dec. 18) – The Waynesburg University wrestling team used five pins in the first six bouts of its match with Muskingum on Saturday to roll to a 42-6 win at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
Sophomore 125-pounder Alex Crown set the tone during the first bout of the night by recording the fastest fall of the contest with a pin in 34 seconds over Shawn Feistamel. Muskingum bounced back with its first win of the evening at 133, but falls by Nick Garber (0:51) at 141, Luke Lohr (1:47) at 149, Garrett Johnson (4:28) at 157 and Alex Evanoff (1:46) at 165 put the home team ahead 30-3.
A 7-0 decision by Jared Roberts pushed the advantage to 33-6 before the Muskies earned their last points of the night on a decision at 184. Freshman 197-pounder Jake Linn won the only overtime bout of the night by a 4-2 decision with a takedown seconds into extra time and freshman heavyweight Brandon Fedorka ended the night with a bang by picking up a win by fall in 1:01.
The Jackets are off until after New Year's and return to the mats on Jan. 7, when they host Penn State New Kensington. The match is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.
