White named to preseason All-American team

Waynesburg's standout second baseman gets nod from D3Baseball.com

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 13) – A breakthrough season in 2008 put Waynesburg University second baseman Wes White Jr on the map as one of the best players in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC). He was named to both organization's all-star teams.

White has also garnered some national attention heading into the 2009 campaign, as he was named to the D3baseball.com Preseason All-American team, which was recently released by the national website. He is an honorable mention selection to the squad.

Last year, White led the Yellow Jackets' regular starters in batting average (.432), on-base percentage (.509) and slugging percentage (.604). He also led all players in runs scored (39), hits (60), triples (seven), total bases (84) and stolen bases (21). He was also second in the PAC in batting average, third in on-bases percentage, third in stolen bases and led the league in triples.

The Pittsburgh native was also a standout on defense, where he sported a .975 fielding percentage over 36 starts.

White was joined by Thiel designated hitter Chris Dunham, a first-team pick, and the Tomcats' standout outfielder Eric Boylan, a second-team selection, as the only players from PAC schools named to the team.

A very young Jackets team is looking to build on last season's 17-21 record when they take on Hampden-Sydney in their season-opener on Feb. 20.
