MONACA, Pa. (Jan. 21) – The Waynesburg men's basketball team picked up a thrilling 74-71 non-conference victory over Penn State-Beaver on Wednesday night.

After falling behind 24-12 in the first half, the Yellow Jackets (6-10) bounced back to take a 35-32 advantage going into the locker room at halftime.

From there, the Jackets were able to hold on to snap the Nittany Lions' nine-game winning streak and drop their opponents to 10-4 on the season. The Yellow Jackets shot 57 percent from the floor in the second half.

The victory was Waynesburg's second over Penn State-Beaver, as they picked up an 80-75 win to open the season back on Nov. 21.

The Yellow Jackets were led by senior guard Jason Clark (pictured above during an earlier game), who poured in a team-high 18 points on the night. Junior guard Ryan Courneen added 17 points in the victory. Senior forward Colby Grubich and senior guard Dan Happe each pitched in 10 points on the night.

Grubich paced the visitors on the board with a team-best six rebounds, while junior guard Jarell Rodriguez and sophomore guard Erik Noone pulled down five boards each.

The Nittany Lions were led by junior forward Zach Fetchin, who tallied a game-high 20 points in the loss.

Waynesburg returns to action on Saturday when they host Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Thiel for a 7:30 p.m. showdown. The Jackets, who beat the Tomcats 105-104 in double-overtime earlier this season, will look for the season sweep.
