Junior Corbin Semple led the Yellow Jackets with a fifth-place finish at the Washington & Jefferson Open on Saturday.
WASHINGTON, Pa. (Nov. 14) – Junior 184-pounder Corbin Semple and sophomore 125-pounder Rico Borz both placed in the top six at the highly competitive Washington & Jefferson Open on Saturday.
Among the schools that were in action at the event were Penn State, West Virginia and Division II powerhouse Pitt-Johnstown.
Semple went 3-2 on the day with two wins by pin en route to placing fifth. Borz also went 3-2 on the day and collected a first-period pin as he placed sixth.
Junior 141-pounder Nick Garber competed in one of the largest brackets of the tournament and advanced to the quarterfinals with two first-period falls, before falling into consolations. Garber rebounded after the loss with a major decision win, but dropped a heart-breaking 4-2 decision to Duquesne's Tony Lascari.
If he could have beaten Lascari, Garber would have had an opportunity to wrestle for fifth place. Garber went on to the seventh-place bout, but it was decided that the match would not be held.
Freshman Brandon Grainy picked up two wins on the day.
