WEXFORD, Pa. (May 3) – The Waynesburg University baseball team swept this week's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) baseball awards. Sophomore outfielder Kenny Grant was named PAC Hitter of the Week and sophomore hurler Ben Oviatt was named PAC Pitcher of the Week.
Grant is the first Waynesburg player to receive top weekly hitting honors from the PAC this season, while Oviatt joins freshman teammate Anthony Longo in winning top pitching laurels. It is the first time this season that Waynesburg has swept the awards.
Grant more than doubled his RBI total for the season after driving 13 runs during five starts for the Yellow Jackets, who went 3-2 this past week. He picked up 11 of his RBI during a seven-inning doubleheader against Thomas More on April 30. He hit .471 (8-17) with a double, his first homerun of the season and four runs scored. In the field, Grant didn't commit an error and picked up an outfield assist.
Oviatt was stingy on the mound for the Yellow Jackets this past week. He made two appearances, one of which was a start, and worked 10 innings. He recorded a 0.90 ERA, gave up just five hits and allowed just one earned run. He worked all eight innings of the Jackets' 4-3 extra-inning win over Geneva on April 27. He followed that by throwing two innings of hitless, scoreless relief in the Jackets' 12-9 win over Thomas More on May 1.

Last week, sophomore Krystal Baker and junior Maria Shepas were named the PAC Women's Field and Track Athletes of the Week, respectively.
With the 2010 baseball season in its home stretch, Waynesburg is gearing up for a vital three-game series with conference-leading Washington & Jefferson this weekend. On Friday, May 7, the Jackets will travel to Washington for a nine-inning contest with the Presidents. The two teams will meet up in Waynesburg on Saturday, May 8, for a pair of seven-inning contests.
