BETHLEHEM, Pa. (May 20) – Representatives from the Waynesburg University track & field team wrapped up their stay at the 2011 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday.
The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore
Kurt Bonnet, who broke the school record in the discus, while competing at Moravian College. The second-year standout placed fourth with a toss of 47.45 meters (155' 7”) and was the top Waynesburg finisher on the day.
Senior
Trale Merz completed the 400-meter hurdles in 56.99 seconds, which was good for 22
nd place. Merz was also one-fourth of Waynesburg's 4x100-meter relay team, which tied for 10
th place. The veteran sprinter was joined by
Steven Snow,
David Cobb and
Jordan Wrask in the 25-team field.
Several of the Waynesburg women were also in action on Friday. Senior
Maria Shepas led the group with a 10
th-place performance in the 22-woman 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:41.87. Sophomore Megan Donovan also competed in the race and crossed the finish line in 12:03.38, good for 18
th place.

Rhea Huwe to make up the Jackets' 4x100-meter relay squad, which posted a time of 52.23 seconds. Post also competed in the triple jump and recorded a top distance of 10.06 meters (33' 0.25”). Junior
Carly Schubert completed the Jacket efforts with a 16
th-place effort in the shot put (11.15 meters, 36' 7”).
The Waynesburg men tied for 38
th in the 58-team field, while the women tied for 41
st out of 56 schools represented. Bates (Maine) College took home the men's title, while Ithaca College earned the women's team crown. For complete results of the meet, click

While the 2010-11 season has concluded for the majority of the Waynesburg squad, a pair of javelin standouts will now wait to see if they'll compete one more time. Senior
Elisha Jones and freshman
Megan Sowers both qualified provisionally for the 2011 national outdoor championships. They will find out if they make the trip to Ohio Wesleyan College on Monday.
