NEWVILLE, Pa. (Sept. 24) – The Waynesburg University women's cross country team pulled double duty on Saturday when they competed at the Dickinson Long Course/Short Course Invitational.
The Yellow Jackets placed 15
th out of 23 teams competing in the short course race. They were represented in the race by junior Megan Donovan, sophomore
Tiffany Onifer, junior
Elizabeth Johnson, freshman
Annette Aho and sophomore Ashleigh Horner. Donovan led the contingency with a 32
nd-place showing (16:53). The Yellow Jackets' top three was completed by Onifer (46
th place, 17:16) and Johnson (67
th place, 18:15).
The host Red Devils took the short course team title and were followed by Muhlenberg and Johns Hopkins in the top three. Individual medalist honors in the short course race went to Moravian's Kadee Rockwell, who put up a time of 15:18.
Waynesburg finished in 11
th place out of 21 squads in the long course event. Sophomore standout
Bre Paul was Waynesburg's top finisher in the event and crossed the finish in 27
th place with a time of 25:12. The next Jacket to cross the finish line was senior
Michelle Naymick, who did so in 53
rd place (26:28). The team's top three was completed by freshman Joy Talbott, who crossed the finish line in 26:35, which was good for 59
th place.
The long course team championship went to Johns Hopkins, while Haverford and Rowan rounded out the top three. Carnegie Mellon's Emily Wobb claimed individual medalist honors with a top time of 22:49.
The Jackets finished 11th overall on the day when combining the two results. The host team from Dickinson added an overall team title to its short course championship.
Waynesburg is back in competition on Saturday, Oct. 8, when the Jackets travel to Center Valley, Pa. to take part in the DeSales University Invitational.
