CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (March 13) – The brackets for the NCAA Division III National Wrestling Championships were recently released to the public and Waynesburg University's three national qualifiers discovered the paths they must take to claim a national title.
Junior 149-pounder
Luke Lohr (8-2) will face off with the winner of fifth-seeded Bobby Dierna of SUNY Cortland and Trevor Engle of Cornell College. Dierna is a freshman with a record of 21-2 and comes into the tournament as the champion of the Northeast Region, as well as the number-four ranking in the country. Engle is also a freshman and boasts a 27-7 record as the runner-up out of the Central Region. Lohr placed third at the Mideast Regional tournament.
Despite winning the 165-pound Mideast Regional title on Saturday, March 2, sophomore
Sam Guidi (22-9) faces the overwhelming favorite in the bracket in junior Landon Williams (26-1) of national powerhouse Wartburg College. The Knights come into the tournament as the two-time defending national team champions, and Williams, who won the Central Regional championship, is the defending champ at the weight and has been ranked number one in the country since the beginning of the 2012-13 season.
While junior 174-pounder
Anthony Bonaventura (23-11) has to face the number-two seed in the weight for his first opponent of the event, the third-place finisher in the Mideast Region has shown he can hang with Ithaca senior Jules Doliscar. Bonaventura nearly upset Doliscar during a dual match with the Bombers before falling 3-2 back on Jan. 18. Doliscar boasts a 28-1 overall record, is ranked number two in the country and placed second in the Northeast Regional tournament after being upset by Lou Puca, the number-three seed, of SUNY Cortland. Doliscar placed seventh in the 2012 NCAA Championships.
The 2013 NCAA Division III National Wrestling Championships get underway on Friday, March 15, at the Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Ice Arena. Session one is scheduled to get started at 11 a.m. For a complete look at this year's brackets click
