CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (March 16) – Junior wrestler Luke Lohr capped a memorable 2012-13 season on Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the NCAA Division III National Wrestling Championships. Despite suffering his second knee injury in as many seasons and missing well over half of Waynesburg's schedule, Lohr wound up on the medal stand at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena after finishing in seventh place at 149 pounds during day two of the national championships.

The Yellow Jacket standout went 2-1 on Friday to qualify for the All-American round of this season's national finals. His first match on Saturday pitted Lohr against Williams College's Jorge Lopez. The two battled to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation and went into sudden victory overtime with a spot in the consolation semifinals on the line. Unfortunately, Lopez's outstanding defense fended off several takedown tries from Lohr and the Eph standout managed to take his opponent to the mat for the deciding points in the 3-1 match.

The loss dropped Lohr into the seventh-place match, where he was matched up against one of the nation's best in the weight class, fourth-seeded senior Emanual Ajagbe of Delaware Valley. The Waynesburg junior put together one of his best performances of the season and upset Ajagbe by 7-5 decision. It was Lohr's second victory over a top-four opponent during his 3-2 run at nationals. He also rolled past third-seeded Mark Hartenstine of Wilkes by 13-1 major decision to reach the All-American round. The Somerset, Pa. native finished the year with an 11-4 overall mark.

Lohr's seventh-place effort was the highlight of Waynesburg's showing at the Division III Championships, which also included the national tournament debuts of sophomore 165-pounder Sam Guidi and junior 174-pounder Anthony Bonaventura. Both Guidi and Bonaventura came just short of joining Lohr as All-Americans, with Guidi going 2-2 and losing a heart-breaking 6-4 overtime decision against the defending national champion and top seed at the weight during his first-round contest. Bonaventura posted a 1-2 mark in the tourney.
