Waynesburg University tennis coach Ron Christman is a certified professional member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and an experienced tournament player, tennis instructor and coach. He continues to teach privately and run tennis camps in the off-season.

The 2007-08 tennis season marks Christman’s 10th at Waynesburg University. Christman has coached the women’s team since the fall of 1998 and the men's team since the spring of 2000. Under his guidance, both programs earned their first winning seasons in 2001-2002.

Since the fall of 2001, Christman has coached a conference doubles champion and five conference singles champions, including freshman Blakeley Mall in the fall of 2007.

Both the men’s and women’s tennis teams posted third-place finishes at the conference championships in 2007. The women’s team also posted a two-win improvement in dual match play this fall.

The Yellow Jacket tennis teams have also achieved tremendous success in the classroom. The women’s team earned its seventh-consecutive Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team Award in 2006-2007, while the men’s team earned the coveted award for a fourth-straight season. A combined 10 players qualified for the ITA Scholar-Athlete award in 2006-2007.

Christman was named USPTA Middle States Division College Coach of the Year for the second time in his career in 2004. His first honor from the USPTA came in 1999.

Christman’s involvement in tennis goes beyond his coaching duties. He is a member of the ITA and sits on the United States Tennis Association Middle States College Committee. He is also a frequent presenter on a variety of tennis subjects. He won the USPTA Middle States seminar contest in 2000 and presented his “Winning Doubles Strategy” seminar at the USPTA World Conference in Phoenix, Ariz., that fall.

A native of Washington, Pa., Christman attended both Waynesburg University and Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y.
