GREENSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 6) – Waynesburg senior
Tim Monaghan finished the Bobcat Invitational race in 31 minutes, 3.0 seconds to lead the Yellow Jackets to a fifth-place finish at the event held at the Westmoreland County Fairgrounds on Saturday morning.
Less than a minute behind Monaghan was junior
Shane Gottschalk, as he clocked a time of 31:56.7 to finish 14th overall. The next Waynesburg University harrier to cross the finish line was junior
Colin Brown with a time of 33:23.2.
Sophomores
Mike Harwick and
Shea Gottschalk posted back-to-back finishes with times of 33:48.7 and 33:49.6, respectively, while freshman Steven Sluzynsk rounded out the Yellow Jacket scorers when he crossed the finish line at 34:35.7.
Seton Hill won the invitational title with a score of 20 points after boasting thee top overall runners. Host Pitt-Greensburg finished in second place with 74 points, wile Thiel (77), Penn State-Altoona and the Yellow Jackets (124) rounded out the top five.
Senior Julian Fiorina won the individual title with a time of 27:36.3, which was more two minutes faster than the second-place finisher.
Waynesburg returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 13, when it hosts its annual invitational at the Greene County Airport.
