GREENSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 6) – The Waynesburg University women's cross country team scored a season-low 31 points and placed all five scorers in the top 12 to finish in second place at the 2007 Bobcat Invitational at the Westmoreland County Fairgrounds on Saturday morning.
Seton Hill, a NCAA Division II program, won the event with a score of 29 points behind four top-10 runners. Following the Yellow Jackets (30), Franciscan University placed third with 80 points, Penn State-Altoona scored 91 points, while host Pitt-Greensburg rounded out the top five with 150 points.
Senior
Michelle Propst Cross finished third overall with a time of 25 minutes, 38.8 seconds for the highest finish by a non-scholarship runner. Classmate
Katie Weko concluded her race in 26:16.4 to finish fifth overall.
Senior
Haley Hinds finished third on the team and seventh overall at 26:43.3 before racing off to John F. Wiley Stadium in Waynesburg to receive Homecoming Queen honors at halftime of the football game.
Sophomore
Janet Carson finished 11th overall with a time of 27:22.6, while junior
Megan Grover rounded out the top-five scorers, clocking 27:23.7 for 12th place.
Freshman Anna Cote of Seton Hill won the individual title with a time of 24:06.8.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, Oct. 20, with a home invitational at the Greene County Airport.
