WAYNESBURG (Oct. 9) – Five different Yellow Jacket players scored a goal, including two tallies by sophomore Katie Gaspich, in a 6-0 shutout victory by the Waynesburg University women's soccer team over Thiel College on Tuesday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.

The shutout victory is the third shutout win this year for the Yellow Jackets, who surpassed their win total from last year with the victory. The six goals by Waynesburg is its highest of the season and the most since a six-goal effort against Chatham in September of 2005.

Overall this season Waynesburg stands at 6-5-2 with a 2-1-1 mark in league play, while Thiel falls to 1-10-1 overall and 0-4 in conference action. The victory marks the fifth-straight for the Yellow Jackets over the Tomcats, a streak that dates back to the 2004 season.

Junior forward Juli Amato netted the game's first goal and her third of the season off an assist from sophomore midfielder Deana Martorella in the fourth minute. Gaspich increased the lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal at the 24:32-mark. Junior Katie Stafiej continued the Yellow Jackets' offensive display in the 31st minute with an unassisted goal, her first of the season. Waynesburg added an additional goal in the first period when freshman Brittney Brown beat Tomcat goalie Jill Harry at the 38:02-mark with an assist from classmate Danielle Danhires.

In the second period, Gaspich recorded her second goal of the game and third of the season in the 70th minute before freshman Amy Macurdy capped the high-scoring effort with a goal at the 88:59-mark.

Waynesburg held a dominant edge in shots, out-shooting Thiel by a 28-5 margin in the two periods.

Senior Amy Mills recorded her first complete shutout victory of the season, posting two saves on five shot attempts in 90 minutes of action.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Friday, Oct. 12, with a road contest against Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pa. The non-conference game against the Golden Tornadoes is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
