Waynesburg suffers 112-65 loss to Pitt-Greensburg

WAYNESBURG (Nov. 20) – The Yellow Jackets struggled with turnovers and their shooting in a 112-65 loss to Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday night at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.

After winning its season-opener, Waynesburg University has lost its last two games and stands at 1-2 this year. Pitt-Greensburg moves to 2-1 this year with the victory.

The Bobcats shot a remarkable 58.1 percent (43-of-74) from the floor, including 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from three-point range. The Bobcats also made 76.2 percent (16-of-21) of their free throws.

Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets shot 38.5 percent (25-of-65) from the field and just 27.6 percent (8-of-29) from beyond the arc.

Junior forward Sarah Gossett led the Yellow Jackets with 15 points on five-of-eight shooting, while freshman forward Elisha Jones added 14 points and five rebounds.

Junior forward Michaelene Jones entered the game at the conference's leading rebounder and finished with eight rebounds and six points in 25 minutes.

Pitt-Greensburg dominated in the paint, scoring 50 points from in close and held a sizable 41-30 advantage in rebounds, benefiting with 17 second-chance points. The Bobcats also made the most of the Yellow Jackets' mistakes, scoring 31 points off turnovers.

UPG featured five players in double figures, led by 19 points and eight rebounds from sophomore forward Kelsey Wilcox. Junior guard Nicole Reiser and senior guard Tiffany Menhorn finished with 18 and 17 points, respectively.

The 100 points surrendered by the Yellow Jackets marks the highest single-game point total for an opponent in recent program history.

Waynesburg returns to action after the holiday weekend next Wednesday, Nov. 28, with a home contest against Carnegie Mellon University. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
