WAYNESBURG (Dec. 15) – Behind 18 points from junior swingman

Tim Drakeley, the Waynesburg University men's basketball team cruised to an 80-63 victory over Franciscan University Saturday night at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
Waynesburg improves to 4-4 with its second-straight win, while Franciscan drops to 1-11 overall with its nine-consecutive loss.
The Yellow Jackets connected on a season-high 13 three-pointers, going 13-for-30 from beyond the arc. Waynesburg dominated in points off turnovers (24-15), as Franciscan turned the ball over 27 times.
Waynesburg ran out to a 52-17 halftime lead behind solid first-half shooting effort, making 14-of-30 attempts (46.7 percent) and 8-of-14 treys (57.1 percent) in the first 20 minutes. The Yellow Jackets also converted on frequent trips to the charity stripe, making 16-of-21 free-throw attempts in the first half. The 52 first-half points is the highest total for Waynesburg this season.
The Yellow Jackets limited the Barons to 36.4 percent (12-of-33) shooting in the first half, including just 16.7 percent (2-of-12) from three-point range. Franciscan only made two trips to the free-throw line in the first half.
The game featured four ties in the early minutes before Waynesburg increased a four-point lead, 18-14, to an 18-point advantage, 32-14, with a 14-0 run over a span of 3:54 in the middle of the first half. The Yellow Jackets closed out the first half by scoring seven unanswered points for a 26-point edge at intermission.
Waynesburg received points from 12 of the 16 players who saw action in the game.
The Yellow Jackets now break for the end of semester and Christmas before returning to the court in two weeks at the Marietta Shrine Classic in Marietta, Ohio, on Saturday, Dec. 29. Waynesburg will open the weekend tournament with a 7 p.m. contest against the host Pioneers at Fenton Court.
