Bethany tops Men's Basketball, 100-78

WAYNESBURG (Dec. 5) – Behind a balanced offensive attack, Bethany College posted a 100-78 victory over the Yellow Jackets in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Wednesday night at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.

Waynesburg University falls to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the league this season, while Bethany improves to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The win also extended the Bison win streak over the Yellow Jackets to 11 games, dating back to the 2002-03 season.

The Yellow Jackets were led offensively by the senior duo of guard Tim Drakeley and forward Josh Parisi. The tandem combined to score 50 of team's 78 points in the contest.

Drakeley led all players with 28 points on 8-of-19 attempts, including 5-of-11 from long range. He also went a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line and added five rebounds.

Parisi totaled 22 points, seven rebounds and three blocks against Bethany.

Junior Dan Happe, who entered the game as the conference's leading scorer, was held to just 13 points, seven points below his season average.

The Bison featured a combined seven players, including all five starters, in double figures, led by senior guard Brody Jackson with 21 points. Senior guard Marcus Adams posted a double-double in the victory with 10 points and 10 assists.

Bethany held the edge in shooting from the field and long range, making 54.5 percent (36-of-66) of its shots and 51.7 percent (15-of-29) of its treys. Meanwhile, Waynesburg shot 41.9 percent (26-of-62) from the field and 31.0 percent (9-of-29) from the beyond the arc.

After owning a brief 10-4 lead to start the game, the Yellow Jackets found themselves down eight points, 23-15, with 9:50 left in the first period. The Bison stretched their first-half lead to as much as 15 points before Waynesburg cut the deficit to single digits after mounting an 8-0 run. Bethany hit a three-pointer in the final minute of the period to take a 50-38 halftime lead.

The Bison carried the momentum into the second half, scoring 12 unanswered points in the first four minutes of the period. The Yellow Jackets eventually trimmed the lead to as low as 10 points in the second half, 82-72, with 6:43 left in the game.

Waynesburg returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 8, in Latrobe, Pa., for an 8 p.m. tip-off against Saint Vincent College.
