Waynesburgs wins season debut over Franciscan, 1-0

Hunsberger claims shutout in first career start

WAYNESBURG (Sept. 1) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team won its season-opening contest, 1-0, against Franciscan University on Saturday morning at John F. Wiley Stadium. The Yellow Jackets used an early goal by JC Danhires and solid defense to fuel the victory.

Danhires put Waynesburg on the scoreboard with his first goal of the season and fifth of his career off a throw in from senior Matt Cross.

Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Hunsberger and the Yellow Jacket defense played well, earning the shutout in the season opener. Hunsberger registered eight saves in 90 minutes of action.

Franciscan goalkeeper William Herrmann had four saves and allowed one goal in 90 minutes of action. The Barons out-shot the Yellow Jackets by a 23-17 margin; however, Waynesburg held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

In their next action, the Yellow Jackets host Penn State-Altoona for a Labor Day non-conference meeting at John F. Wiley Stadium on Monday, Sept. 3, at 12 p.m
