SALISBURY, Md. (Sept. 1) – The Waynesburg University women's cross country team opened the season with a fifth-place performance in the 6K race at the Sea Gull Opener on Saturday morning.
Running at Winter Place Park, the Yellow Jackets had three runners place in the top 20. Sophomore
Janet Carson led the Waynesburg harriers with a 12th-place finish (24 minutes, 14 seconds). Junior
Megan Grover finished 15 seconds behind Carson in 24:29. Senior
Haley Hinds placed 19th with a race time of 24:42. Both Carson and Hinds set personal bests at the annual event.

Katie Weko crossed the line 24th in 25:17, while classmate
Michelle Propst Cross rounded out the Waynesburg runners with a season-opening time of 25:42.
Salisbury won the host event for the second-straight season with 47 points behind three top 10 runners, including the individual winner, junior Kelly Sullivan, who ran a time of 22:52.
The next race for the Yellow Jackets is the 36th-annual California (Pa.) Invitational next Saturday, Sept. 8.
