WAYNESBURG (Sept. 17) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team snapped its five-game losing streak in astonishing fashion on Monday afternoon, defeating Mount Aloysius by a 10-1 count. The 10 goals is the highest single-game total in recent program history.
The Yellow Jackets received two-goal performances from seniors
JC Danhires and
Ronnie Wilson, along with junior
Jeremy Pronto, while four additional players all tallied one goal each.
Waynesburg struck early and often, scoring six first-half goals against the Mounties. Pronto and Danhires scored the first four Yellow Jacket goals, as each player raised their team-leading total to three. Both Danhires and Pronto contributed an assist in the game to each finish with five total points.
Wilson, who is in his first year with the program, added his first two career goals in the 43rd minute, as the goals were scored in less than a minute.
In the second half, senior
Scott Garet, sophomore
Chris Crimone and freshmen
Simeon Williams and
Eric Fait all registered goals for the Yellow Jackets.
Junior goalkeeper
Brad Davis earned the victory for Waynesburg, making one save in 60 minutes of work. Freshman
Ryan Hunsberger played the final 40 minutes in net for the Yellow Jackets, allowing one goal and making one save.
Waynesburg returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 19, with a road contest against La Roche in Pittsburgh. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
