WAYNESBURG (Sept. 20) – The Waynesburg University women's soccer team nearly pulled off an upset of Division II-member California (Pa.) University on Thursday afternoon, falling 1-0 to the Vulcans. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets drop to 4-4 on the season, while the Vulcans improved to 1-8-1 overall.
Waynesburg came out strong against Cal, keeping the game scoreless at halftime, 0-0, despite the Vulcans attempting 17 shots.
Junior forward Michelle Ewig scored the game's lone goal at the 52:26-mark off an assist from sophomore Amanda Heister.

Amy Mills, limited Cal to just one goal on 30 total shot attempts. Yeich played the first 45 minutes of the contest, making a season-high nine saves on 17 shots. Mills finished the game in net and registered five saves on 13 shot attempts.
Waynesburg returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 22, when it travels to face Bethany College for a 1 p.m. non-conference contest. After this weekend's game, the Yellow Jackets and Bison will play their conference game in early October.
