LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 22) – Waynesburg senior cross country runner
Tim Monaghan finished the five-mile race in 30 minutes, 30 seconds to lead the Yellow Jackets at the Saint Vincent College Invitational on Saturday.
The next two runners for Waynesburg cross the line within a span of seven seconds. Junior
Shane Gottschalk finished second among the Yellow Jacket runners in 31:49, while freshman
Ben Fortna crossed the finish line at 31:56. The fourth and fifth runners for Waynesburg posted individual back-to-back finishes within three seconds of each other. Sophomore
Mike Harwick finished fourth on the team in 33:02, while junior
Colin Brown rounded out the top-five runners for the Yellow Jackets with a time of 33:05.
The host Bearcats won the team event with 35 points behind the top-two overall finishers. California (Pa.) University (60) edged Carnegie Mellon (63) for second place in the 13-team event. Waynesburg placed 10th overall with a final score of 258.
Junior Adam Smith of Saint Vincent won the individual title with a time of 26:42.
The next race for the Yellow Jackets is the Bobcat Invitational, hosted by Pitt-Greensburg, on Saturday, Oct. 6.
