Kreinbrook, Lindner lead Volleyball past Thiel, 3-1

Veterans each register kill/dig double-double

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 26) – The Yellow Jackets used a kill/dig double-double performance from both senior Ashley Kreinbrook and junior Laurie Lindner to claim a 3-1 (30-15, 25-30, 30-26, 30-27) victory over Thiel College on Wednesday afternoon in a home tri-match at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.

The victory snapped a three-match losing streak and moved Waynesburg to 5-11 on the year with a 2-1 mark in conference action, while the Tomcats fall to 4-11 overall and 0-3 in league play.

Kreinbrook registered her second kill/dig double-double, tallying a season-high 14 kills and 23 digs and Lindner posted 17 kills and 21 digs. Junior middle hitter Amanda Jo Morgan added 14 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Jenna Heaston tallied a career-best 12 kills on .444 hitting against the Tomcats.

Freshman libero Rachell Storm led the team with 29 digs, while junior setter Amanda Staudt recorded a season-high 45 assists in the win.

In game one, Waynesburg led throughout most of the entire game and owned a 21-13 lead which prompted a Thiel timeout. After a quick Tomcat point, the Yellow Jackets finished the game on an 8-1 run and won the final five points of the game.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the second stanza, but the Tomcats made a 10-3 run to trim their deficit to 17-15. Thiel eventually took the lead at the 21-20 mark and held on for a 30-25 victory in the second game.

Waynesburg answered in game three, using a 6-1 run at the end of the game to escape with a 30-26 victory. In the early stages of the fourth game, neither team could claim a substantial lead as there were 12 ties in the opening half of the game. Following a Thiel timeout at the 16-16 mark, Waynesburg seized the lead and held of for a 30-27 victory.

The Yellow Jackets conclude their host tri-match tonight, Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 8 p.m. against Geneva College.
