EDGEWOOD, Ky. (Sept. 29) – Behind a stellar defense performance and an efficient offensive attack, the Yellow Jackets claimed a 20-6 victory over Thomas More College on Saturday afternoon at Dixie Heights High School Stadium.
With the victory, Waynesburg improves to 4-0 overall with a 2-0 mark in league play, while Thomas More drops to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in conference action. The Yellow Jackets are off to their first 4-0 start since the 1997 season.
The Waynesburg defense limited the Saints to just 126 yards of total offense and six first downs. The Yellow Jackets limited sophomore Cordario Collier to just 63 rushing yards on 21 attempts after the running back entered the contest averaging 162.7 yard/game.
Waynesburg was led offensively by the efficient play of freshman quarterback
Kyle Kyper and freshman running back
Robert Heller. Kyper finished the game completing 12-of-16 attempts for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Heller registered 192 rushing yards on 40 attempts and added three receptions for 53 yards.
Senior tight end
Ryan Cronin hauled in three catches for 30 yards, including a pair of touchdowns.
After a scoreless first quarter, Waynesburg took a 6-0 lead on a 4-yard touchdown run by senior fullback
Aaron Davis (kick failed) with 12:41 left before halftime. The Saints answered back with a 37-yard touchdown pass from Josh Gauger to John Resch to tie the contest at 6-6 (kick blocked by senior linebacker
Brendon Steele).
In the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets broke the tie and seized control of the game with a 4-yard pass from Kyper to Cronin with 5:48 left in the quarter. On the ensuing Thomas More possession, Waynesburg recovered a fumble near the red zone to set up a 10-yard touchdown strike from Kyper to Cronin.

Ryan Krull led the defense with seven tackles (five solo), while senior cornerback
Jacques Newberry added six stops with an interception. Junior defensive end
Mike Czerwien finished with five tackles with three TFL and two sacks.
The Yellow Jackets return to action next Saturday, Oct. 6, against Saint Vincent for Homecoming. Kickoff at John F. Wiley Stadium is set for 1:30 p.m.
