WAYNESBURG (Sept. 3) – Despite scoring a goal in the 77th minute to make it a one-goal deficit, Waynesburg dropped a 3-1 decision to Penn State-Altoona in a physical Labor Day contest at John F. Wiley Stadium on Monday afternoon.

With the victory, the Lions improve to 2-0 this season, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-1 early in the 2007 campaign.

PSU-Altoona took control of the game in the first half on a goal by midfielder Len Castor off a pass through midfield by Brock Heller in the 15th minute. The Lions defense prevented Waynesburg from attempting a shot on goal in the opening half.

Early in the second period, midfielder Tim Morris expanded the Lions' lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal in the 49th minute. The game remained a 2-0 advantage for PSU-Altoona until the 77th minute when sophomore midfielder Jeremy Pronto scored his first career goal off a rebound. Waynesburg continued to pressure the Lion net late in the game in attempt to force the game into overtime. However, the Lions managed to seal the victory in the 86th minute on an unassisted goal by freshman Brinton Satterfield.

Sophomore Brandon McQuillen picked up the victory in goal for PSU-Altoona, who made three saves on the afternoon, while junior Brad Davis shouldered the loss despite making six saves in 82-plus minutes.

The Yellow Jackets start a four-game road trip on Wednesday, Sept. 6, when they travel to face Marietta College for a 4 p.m. contest.
