PITTSBURGH (Sept. 5) – Freshman midfielder
Danielle Danhires recorded her first career goal on Wednesday evening against Chatham in the 29th minute. She would later add two second-half goals in the second period to collect her first career hat trick, as the Yellow Jackets posted a 4-0 shutout victory against Chatham.
Danhires is the first Yellow Jacket to register a hat trick since teammate
Juli Amato accomplished the feat at Thiel in October of 2005.
The Peters Township graduate gave Waynesburg a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute off a direct kick with her first career goal (unassisted). The score would remain 1-0 through halftime despite the Yellow Jackets attempting 11 first-period shots.
However, early in the second half, freshman
Brittany Spitznogle scored her first career goal off an assist from sophomore
Catherine Moore in the 47th minute. Danhires, whose brother, J.C., plays on the men's soccer team, would then score her second unassisted goal of the game in the 61st minute to give the Yellow Jackets a solid 3-0 lead.
Less than three full minutes after her second goal, Danhires completed the hat trick with another unassisted goal.

Paige Yeich shared the shutout, combining to make four saves on 10 shots. Chatham goalkeeper Kristin Podboy had seven saves in 90 minutes in the loss.
Waynesburg returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 8, for its home opener against Hood (Md.) College. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at John F. Wiley Stadium.
