MARIETTA, Ohio (Sept. 6) – The Yellow Jackets suffered a tough 5-0 shutout loss at Marietta on Thursday evening. The Pioneers used a goal from five different players to register the win, including three in the first period.
The game remained scoreless until the 14th minute when Bradley Baweja put the ball into the left side of the net for his first goal of the season. Baweja added an assist off a header on the next Marietta tally which came in the 29th minute. The Pioneers added their third goal of the period in the 40th minute when Kyle Muth posted his fourth goal of the campaign.
In the opening period, Marietta consistently attacked the Yellow Jacket net, attempting 15 shots in the first 45 minutes of the game.
In the second period, the Pioneers received goals from Alan Porter and Mike Kovarik to improve to 2-0-1 this year.
Waynesburg (1-2) used three goalkeepers to collect seven saves on 25 shots in 90 minutes. Marietta goalkeepers Kasey Gray and Mike Sanchez made a combined four saves on eight Yellow Jacket shots to split the shutout.
The Yellow Jackets continue their four-game road trip on Tuesday, Sept. 11, with a 6 p.m. game against Frostburg State University.
