WAYNESBURG (Jan. 12) – Despite four players in double-figure scoring, the Waynesburg University men's basketball team dropped an 86-72 contest against Geneva College Saturday night at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
With their second-straight loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 6-7 overall. Meanwhile, the Golden Tornadoes improve to 8-6 this season.
Waynesburg cut a 17-point, second-half lead to eight points with nine unanswered points to make it a 68-60 contest with 6:43 remaining in regulation. The Golden Tornadoes then answered with a rally of its own to work the lead to 14 points, 79-65, with 3:49 left in the period. The Yellow Jackets managed to make it a 10-point difference before late-game, free-throw shooting sealed the game.

Josh Parisi posted a team-high total of 19 points on 8-of-12 attempts from the floor with seven rebounds and four steals in 36 minutes of action. The Golden Tornadoes limited senior guard

Both teams shot well from the field during the game with Geneva shooting 48.1 percent (26-of-54) of its shots while Waynesburg made 42.6 percent of its attempts. The Golden Tornadoes held a distinct advantage from the beyond the arc, hitting eight three-pointers and shooting 42.1 percent from long range.
Geneva was led offensively by a game-high 31 points from sophomore guard Bryan Hill, who made 8-of-18 shots from the field (six three-pointers) and 9-of-10 attempts from the free-throw line. Senior forward Greg McDivitt nearly collected a double-double with 19 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The Golden Tornadoes held a significant advantage on the glass, out-rebounding the Yellow Jackets by a 41-25 margin. Despite the difference, Waynesburg actually held the edge from in close, scoring 36 points from in the paint.
The meeting between the two former longtime NAIA rivals was the first since the 1989-90 season and 125th all-time meeting between the two programs.
The Yellow Jackets continue their two-game homestand on Wednesday, Jan. 16, when they host Grove City College for a conference game at Marisa Fieldhouse. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
