WASHINGTON, Pa. (Jan. 19) – Freshman forward 
Elisha Jones scored a season-high 20 points and the Yellow Jackets committed a season-low 10 turnovers. However, it wasn't enough as the Waynesburg University women's basketball team dropped a 67-51 contest to Washington & Jefferson at Henry Memorial Center Saturday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.
Waynesburg falls to 0-6 in league play and 1-14 overall while W&J is now 11-4 and 4-2 in conference action.
Jones led the team in scoring for the fifth time this season, hitting six-of-nine shots from the floor and making 8-of-11 attempts from the free-throw line. She also collected a team-high six rebounds, two blocks and two steals against the Presidents.
Junior forward 
Jeanette Wonsettler added 13 points, four rebounds and a game-high five assists in 31 minutes off the bench.
The Yellow Jackets trailed by just six points, 28-22, at halftime despite shooting 20.7 percent (6-of-29) from the floor in the first 20 minutes. Waynesburg trailed by as many as 11 points, 26-15, in the first half before closing out the half on a 7-2 run during the final four minutes of the period.
Midway through the second period, the Presidents mounted a 14-3 rally to extend their lead to as many as 20 points, 53-33. The Yellow Jackets eventually battled back to cut the deficit to as low as 11 points, 58-47, following a three-pointer by senior guard 
Amanda Mitchell.
W&J sophomore guard Stephanie Smith led all scorers with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including six three-pointers. Senior forward Jen Rogers nearly registered a double-double after posting 12 points and nine points.
The Presidents shot 43.9 percent (25-of-57) from the field, including 7-of-16 from beyond the arc. The Yellow Jackets shot 32.1 percent (18-of-56) and just 5-of-24 from long range.
W&J, who has now won 21-straight meetings against Waynesburg, held a dominant 49-25 rebound advantage.
The Yellow Jackets conclude their first round of conference play on Wednesday, Jan. 23, when they host first-year conference member Chatham University for a 7:30 p.m. start at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
