WAYNESBURG (Jan. 23) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball scored the lowest single-game total in recent program history Wednesday, as it suffered a 46-27 loss to Chatham University at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.
The win by the Cougars snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Yellow Jackets that dated back to the 2001-02 season. With the loss, Waynesburg falls to 1-15 overall and finished the first round of league games at 0-7. Meanwhile, Chatham, who is in its first year with the conference, moves to 6-9 overall and 2-5 in conference play.

Jeanette Wonsettler each finished with five points. Mitchell led the team with nine rebounds, including four offensive boards.
The Cougars opened the game on a 17-2 run over almost the first 16 minutes of the game before the Yellow Jackets hit their first shot from the field, missing their first 12 attempts. Chatham took a 23-6 lead into halftime after shooting just 25.8 percent (8-of-31) in the opening 20 minutes. However, the Waynesburg shot a paltry 5.6 percent (1-of-18) from the field, including zero-for-nine from beyond the arc.
The Yellow Jackets played almost even with the Cougars in the second half, being out-scored by a 23-21 margin. In the final period, Waynesburg made five three-pointers and shot 28.6 percent (8-of-28) from the field.
Chatham held a slim 38-36 edge in rebounds, but controlled the paint on offense scoring 20 points from in close and 11 second-chance points. The Cougars also converted with 27 points off mistakes by the Yellow Jackets, who committed 24 turnovers.
Eleven different Chatham players scoring in the contest led by nine points from freshman forward Kayla Hilko, who collected a game-high seven steals. Sophomore Libby Soeder added six points and a team-high nine rebounds off the bench.
Waynesburg concludes its two-game, conference homestand on Saturday, Jan. 26, when it hosts Thiel College for a 5:30 p.m. start at the Marisa Fieldhouse.
