Waynesburg women kickers drop 1-0 nail biter

Yellow Jackets give up early goal, can't recover against Grove City

Box Score

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 10) – For 89 minutes and seven seconds, the Waynesburg women's soccer team played right with Grove City, the top squad in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.

Unfortunately for the Yellow Jackets, the Wolverines scored the game's only goal of the contest just 53 seconds in and it was enough for GCC to pick up a 1-0 win on Friday night.

Grove City's Emily Ostlund got the game-winning tally off of an assist by Elise Bender and put it past senior Yellow Jacket keeper Paige Yeich for what ended up being the game-deciding goal.

After that, the two team's played tight, defensive soccer before the contest ended in a win that improved GCC to 3-0 in the PAC and 7-5-2 overall. The loss dropped Waynesburg to 1-1 in the conference and 6-5-1 overall.

After giving up the early score, Yeich settled down and stopped six saves in the first half before being relieved by freshman Katrina Kelly who stopped all four shots on goal she faced over the entire span of the second half.

After suffering through a tough loss, the Yellow Jackets will be off until Wednesday, Oct. 15, when they travel to Bethany for a PAC showdown with the Bison. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
