WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 14) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team rolled over Bethany to the tune of a 9-0 sweep this Tuesday afternoon.
The win was the Yellow Jackets' second in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) this season as they improved to 2-3 in conference play and 3-8 overall. The loss dropped Bethany to 2-10 overall and 1-3 in PAC play.
Senior Laura Garcia picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number one singles over Bethany Stickradt and also teamed up with teammate Jessica Kody to earn a win at number one doubles.
Junior Allie Horochak also picked up a pair of wins on the day by beating Ashley Currant at number two doubles 6-1, 6-4 and teaming up with teammate Jess Mally to triumph at number two doubles by an 8-0 final over Lucero Lopez and Antoinette Douglas.
Mally earned a singles win to go along with her doubles triumph when she took a three-set win over Lisa Pfadenhauer by the final of 6-1, 3-6, 7-5. Kody also completed a doubles/singles sweep by upending Lopez 6-3, 6-2.
Rounding out the singles sweep for Waynesburg were freshmen Cassie Califf and Melissa Faulkner, who were victorious at number five and number six singles, respectively.
The final doubles match of the day was not completed because of darkness.
After playing their last four matches at home, the Jackets will hit the road on Thursday, Oct. 16, for a road match at Penn State-Altoona.
