Waynesburg sweeps Grove City in PAC volleyball action

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 2) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team picked up a resounding Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory with a 3-0 sweep of Grove City on Thursday night.

 

The win snapped a three-match losing streak for the Yellow Jackets and it also completed a season sweep over the Wolverines.

 

The Jackets (6-10, 2-4) opened up the night with a 25-17 win in set one and followed that with a pair of 25-22 triumphs in sets two and three.

 

In set one, Standout senior outside hitter Laurie Lindner led the Jacket attack with eight kills, while fellow senior Amanda Staudt recorded 11 assists from her setter position.

 

In set two, Lindner added seven more kills to her night and Staudt picked up 13 more assists. Staudt also recorded the team's only service ace of the night.

 

 

In set three, it was more of the same as Lindner again led the attack with six kills, while senior middle hitter Amanda Jo Morgan added four kills. Staudt rolled up 13 more assists in the clinching victory.

 

On the night, Lindner set a new high for the season with 21 kills, while Staudt paced the squad with 37 assists.

 

Sophomore libero Rachell Storm rolled up a team-high 29 digs, while Lindner chipped in nine on the night.

 

The Yellow Jackets won't have long to enjoy their victory as they are scheduled to hit the road this Saturday and travel to Bethany College to compete in a tri-match with Bethany and Saint Vincent.
