WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 25) – On senior day at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse, several Yellow Jackets left quite a lasting impression on the home crowd in their final regular season match at Waynesburg.
Thanks in part to good efforts from fourth-year standouts like Laurie Lindner and Amanda Jo Morgan, the Jackets completed a season sweep of Bethany with a 3-1 win over the Bison.
The home team (9-19, 5-8) won the first two sets by the scores of 25-18 and 28-26, before Bethany (5-22, 2-10) responded with a 25-23 win in set three. The Jackets sealed the victory with a 25-23 triumph in set four.
Lindner, who is pictured abover from an earlier match, was an offensive dynamo for Waynesburg as she recorded a career-best 26 kills, including nine successful attacks in set three. The Cranberry Township native also led the team with four service aces and two blocks, one of them a solo stuff.
Morgan also had a double-digit day on the attack with 13 kills. Defensively, the veteran middle hitter picked up two solo blocks and assisted on two more.
Adding a big hand to the Waynesburg attack was senior setter Amanda Staudt, who rolled up a team-best 47 assists, which gives her 900 on the season.
Defensively, sophomore Rachell Storm led the way with 25 digs. Lindner added 13 digs for her 16th double-double on the year.
The win was especially satisfying for the Jackets as it snapped a six-game losing streak. Waynesburg will conclude its regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 28, when they travel to Pittsburgh to battle Chatham in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) season finale.
