PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Oct. 28) – The Waynesburg University women's volleyball team finished up the season on a high note as they completed a two-match season sweep of Chatham University Tuesday night.
The Yellow Jackets beat the Cougars by the final of 3-1. The set scores from the match were 25-20, 20-25, 25-9, 25-14 in favor of the victorious Jackets.
Head coach Stephanie Benkowski was able to go deeper into her bench than usual, allowing several younger players to see action against Cougars.
Freshman outside hitter Carly Schubert and defensive specialist Courtney Teter each recorded double-digit digs in the win with 15 and 14, respectively. Another freshman, middle hitter Erica Lippencott finsihed second on the team with four kills.
Despite only playing in two sets, senior outside hitter Laurie Lindner led the team in kills with 10, and her classmate, setter Amanda Staudt recorded a double-double with a match-high 34 assists and 14 digs.
Freshman middle hitter/outside hitter Jenna Stoltzfus led the team with four total blocks, which all came on assists.
The win gave Waynesburg a final overall record of 10-19 and 4-6 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).
With the regular season wrapped up, Waynesburg will see if they qualify for the PAC Championship Tournament, which gets underway on Tuesday, Nov. 4. As of now, the Jackets are currently ranked sixth in the conference, which puts them in the tourney.
