BETHANY, W.Va. (Oct. 4) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team picked up its third Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory of the season while splitting two matches at a tri-match held at Bethany College.
The Yellow Jackets (7-11, 3-4) looked strong while earning a 3-0 sweep over the host Bison in their opening contest of the day. Waynesburg took sets one and two by the final 25-20. The Jackets clinched the victory with a 25-15 win in set three.
In the win, the Jackets got several solid performances in a true team effort.
Senior middle hitter
Amanda Jo Morgan led the attack with a team-high eight kills, while the team's all-time leader in career kills,
Laurie Lindner, added six. Senior setter
Amanda Staudt led the team with 19 assists.
Defensively, sophomore
Rachell Storm racked up a team-best 20 digs, while Lindner added 15.
The Jackets were very good off the serve as well as they recorded five service aces, including three by Morgan in set one.
Unfortunately, match number two didn't go Waynesburg's way as they were swept by a very talented Saint Vincent squad. The Bearcats beat the Yellow Jackets 25-20, 25-12, 25-21.
Though they came in a losing effort, there were some very good individual efforts put forth by the Jackets.
Lindner put a double-double in game two of Waynesburg's day with a team-high 11 kills and 10 digs. Morgan added nine kills to the attack.
Defensively, two more Yellow Jackets had double-digit dig days in Storm (25) and Staudt (14). Staudt also had a double-double in the match with a team-best 22 assists.
Waynesburg will try to improve to .500 in the PAC on Wednesday, Oct. 8, when they head to Greenville, Pa. for a conference showdown with Thiel.
