PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Oct. 7) – Freshman forward Courtney Ebersole introduced herself to the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) in a big way during Tuesday afternoon's game at Chatham.
The first-year player from East Berlin, Pa. netted her first collegiate hat trick to lead Waynesburg to a 5-0 win over the host Cougars in the Jackets' PAC opener.
Waynesburg (6-4-1, 1-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 2:50 into the contest when sophomore Britney Brown scored her second goal of the season. The score was unassisted.
The scored remained 1-0 as the first half came to a close. However, shortly after the start of the second period, Ebersole, pictured above during a previous game, took over, burying shots behind Chatham goalkeeper Mary McMahon at 51:14, 58:41 and 61:02 into the game.
Sophomore Danielle Danhires picked up an assist on Ebersole's second goal of the hat trick, and senior Juli Amato fed a pass to Ebersole on her third goal.
Another freshman forward, Melody Cox, picked up the final score of the game at the 70:22 mark. Cox's goal was unassisted.
In net, senior Waynesburg keeper Paige Yeich got the start and stopped three shots during her 45 minutes of work in the first half. The fresman duo of Katrina Kelly and Jaime Williamson completed the shutout by working the second half.
Overall, the Yellow Jackets out-shot Chatham by a 22-8 margin.
After a very successful conference debut, Waynesburg look to start 2-0 in PAC play this Friday when they host Grove City for a 6:30 p.m. game under the lights at John F. Wiley Stadium
