WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 10) – Despite winning four-of-six singles matches, the Waynesburg University women's tennis team couldn't pull out a win against Frostburg State on Thursday.

While the Jackets (2-7) looked strong in singles play, Frostburg (8-8) dominated doubles play by sweeping the trio of pairs matches.

Senior Laura Garcia picked up her second-straight win at number one singles with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory over the Bobcats' Sarah Eisel. However, FSU evened things up with a win at number two singles when Caroline Shedd took a three-set decision from Alexis Horochak by the score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

Frostburg picked up another win at number three singles, but Waynesburg swept the number four, five and six matches.

Freshman Jessica Kody won in straight sets (7-5, 6-4) in a number four singles match against Monie Cuddahee. Another freshman, Cassie Califf, earned her team-leading fifth singles victory, and her first at number five singles, with a hard-fought 2-6, 6-2, 1 (6) triumph over Theresa Mills.

Last, but not least, freshman Melissa Faulkner chalked up a win at number six singles by sweeping Zelia Collison 6-3, 6-4.

The Yellow Jackets wrap up a busy week of home matches – their third in four days – by hosting Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Westminster on Friday in a 3 p.m. match.
