WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov. 25) – After falling behind by four at halftime, the Waynesburg men's basketball team exploded for 55 points in the second half and ended up rolling over visiting Franciscan (Ohio) by the final of 84-58.
The win improves the Yellow Jackets' record to 2-1, while Franciscan falls to 2-2.
After falling behind 33-29 to the Barons and being out-shot by more than 12 percent form the floor, the Jackets came roaring back in the second half.
Waynesburg shot an impressive 56.3 percent in the second half, while Franciscan cooled off considerably, connecting on just nine-of-27 shots (33.3 percent).
Already up 57-49 with 10:28 to go in the second half, the Jackets rolled off an 14-0 run over the next 5:45 to take a 71-49 advantage and effectively put the game away.
Several Yellow Jackets had big scoring days, with senior guard Dan Happe pacing his team with 18 points. Senior forward Colby Grubich added a personal season-best 14 points on six-of-seven shooting, and also chipped in a team-high eight rebounds.
Rounding out the double-digit scoring for Waynesburg was sophomore forward Jeff Young, poured in 12 points on a perfect four-of-four shooting off the bench. Junior guard Jarrell Rodriguez also had a solid night, tossing in eight points and dishing out seven assists.
Franciscan was led by sophomore center Andrew Kay, who recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, both of which were game highs.
Waynesburg returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 29, when they travel to Cabrini to take on the Cavaliers.
