Waynesburg men's hoops teams loses shootout with Cavaliers

Pa. (Nov. 29) – The Yellow Jacket men's basketball team could not handle a hot-shooting Cabrini team on Saturday when they dropped a 97-82 contest to the Cavaliers.

 

The loss dropped Waynesburg back to .500 (2-2) on the season, while Cabrini improved to 4-0.

 

The Jackets kept it close with the Cavaliers through most of the first half, trailing by only four (44-40) with 2:30 to go in the period. However, Cabrini went on a 6-0 to end the first 20 minutes of play with a 50-40 lead.

 

After the second half tip off, Cabrini continued on their run, putting up the first five points of the period, and taking a 55-40 lead.

 

After that, the Cavaliers poured it on, leading by as many as 20 with 2:26 left in the contest, before the Jackets trimmed it to 15 at the end of the game.

 

As a team, Cabrini out-shot Waynesburg 56.7 percent to 50.0 percent.

 

The Jackets were led in the scoring column by senior Zack Engel, who scored a team-high 17 points in the loss. Also racking up double-digit points off the bench was sophomore forward Jeff Young, who put up 12.

 

As far as starters go, senior guard Jason Clark led the first five on the floor with 13 points, while fellow senior Dan Happe chipped in 12.

 

Cabrini was led by sophomore forward Dom Farrello, who led all scorers with 20 points. Sophomore guard Glenn Washington added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

 

The Jackets will try to get back on the winning track on Wednesday, Dec. 3, when they travel to Greenville to start Presidents' Athletic Conference play against Thiel.
