NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Nov. 7) – The Waynesburg volleyball team put a good scare into the top-ranked squad from Westminster during their semifinal match of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tournament Friday evening.
The Yellow Jackets took the first set of the match, but the Titans proved to be too much as they stormed back to win the contest 3-1 and advance to the conference finals.
The fifth-seeded Jackets (11-20) opened the night with a 25-21 win in set one, before top-seeded Westminster (23-10) bounced back by taking the final three sets by the scores of 25-15, 25-13 and 25-18.
Waynesburg was led by a pair of seniors playing in their final matches in outside hitter Laurie Lindner and middle hitter Amanda Jo Morgan.
Lindner recorded her 18th double-double of the 2008 campaign with 11 kills and a team-high 19 digs. Morgan led the Waynesburg attack with a match-high 16 kills. Another Jacket senior, setter Amanda Staudt, posted a team-best 24 assists.
Sophomore libero Rachell Storm chipped in 16 digs on the night.
The Titans move on to face the winner of Thomas More and Washington and Jefferson in tomorrow's final.
