GROVE CITY, Pa. (Feb. 16) – The Waynesburg University women's basketball team suffered a 56-43 loss at Grove City College Saturday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play.
The Yellow Jackets, who fall to 1-22 overall and 0-12 in league play, trimmed a 17-point deficit (44-27) to nine points in the final minutes of the second half before dropping the contest to the Wolverines, who improve to 9-14 overall with a 4-9 mark in conference action.

Michaelene Jones scored a team-high 11 points on five-of-eight shooting and collected eight rebounds (three offensive). Freshman guard
Marquis Demniak added nine points with three three-pointers off the bench, while freshman forward
Elisha Jones finished with six points and six rebounds.
The game featured a slow offensive start, as the Wolverines held a slim 10-8 lead with 10:16 left before halftime. Grove City then seized momentum with a 10-0 rally over the next five minutes to take a 20-8 lead. The Wolverines expanded their lead to as many as 16 points, 25-9, in the first period before taking a 27-14 lead into halftime after shooting 44.0 percent (11-of-25) from the field with five three-pointers.
In the second half, the Wolverines maintained their double-digit lead, gradually expanding it to 17 points, 44-27, with 6:51 left in the game. The Yellow Jackets then mounted a 13-5 run to cut the deficit to nine points, 49-40, with 1:51 remaining following a lay-up by
Michaelene Jones. However, Grove City sealed the victory at the free-throw line, making seven-of-eight attempts down the stretch.
Junior guard Katy McCready led the Wolverines with 14 points, while sophomore forward Laura Miller added 11 points. Freshman forward Christine Slater finished with eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds (four offensive).
For the game, Grove City shot at 34.6 percent (18-of-52) from the floor with seven three-pointers. In comparison, Waynesburg made 29.8 percent (14-of-47) of its shots with six treys.
The Yellow Jackets out-rebounded the Wolverines by a 41-35 margin, but committed 28 turnovers that the Wolverines converted into 20 points.
Waynesburg continues conference play on Wednesday, Feb. 20, when it hosts Washington & Jefferson College for a 5:30 p.m. contest at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. The game marks the final home game of the season for the Yellow Jackets.
