Lacrosse drops road contest at Saint Vincent, 15-1

LATROBE, Pa. (April 1) – In its first action in over two weeks, the Yellow Jackets dropped a 15-1 contest to Saint Vincent College Tuesday afternoon.

With the loss, Waynesburg University falls to 0-6 in its inaugural season. Meanwhile, Saint Vincent moves to 3-0 this year.

Junior midfielder Steph Strauser (McVeytown, Pa./Belleville Mennoite) scored her second goal of the season off a missed free-position attempt with 3:40 left in the game.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game behind one goal and two assists from freshman Liz Louison. Saint Vincent, who fielded its first lacrosse team in 1999, added 10 more goals in the first period before entering halftime with a 13-0 lead.

In the second period, Waynesburg played almost even with Saint Vincent. The Bearcats held a narrow 8-5 advantage in second-period shots, while the Yellow Jackets posted a 6-2 edge in ground balls in the second period.

Senior goalkeeper Laura Rayle (Wind Ridge, Pa./West Greene) posted 10 saves on 28 attempts in 60 minutes of action.

Waynesburg returns to action on Sunday, April 6, with a 12 p.m. road contest against Medaille College in Buffalo, N.Y.
