WAYNESBURG (April 10) – The Waynesburg University softball team won both games of its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Thiel College on Thursday afternoon, winning 4-0 before claiming a 7-6 extra-inning victory in Game 2.
The wins move the Yellow Jackets to 9-11 overall and 3-1 in league play this year, while the Tomcats fall to 6-13 overall and 2-2 in conference action.
In the second game, Waynesburg scored four runs in the top of the seventh to take its first lead of the game, 6-5. However, Thiel answered back in the bottom of the inning with a run to force the game into extra innings. In the eighth, junior shortstop
Haley Kramer (Ellwood City, Pa./Laurel) legged out an infield single and stole second base. With two outs, junior catcher
Kristyn Klueg (East Northport, N.Y./John H. Glenn) lined a single to center field that scored Kramer from second for the eventual game-winning run.
Junior right-hander
Autumn Minor (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg Central) (6-4) earned the win after throwing two innings of relief and allowing one run (unearned) on one hit. The Tomcats' Elise Moore (3-6) took the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits in 7.1 innings with two walks and three strikeouts.
Klueg headlined the Waynesburg offense in the second game of the twin bill, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI after getting hit in the face by a pitch in the first inning. Freshman first baseman
Elysia Orison (Burgettstown, Pa./Burgettstown) added a pair of RBI, while Kramer and Minor each collected two hits in the victory.
In Game 1, Minor tossed her third complete-game shutout of the season, throwing 7.0 innings, scattering four hits, fanning eight and walking none. Thiel starter Emily Batiz (3-7) suffered the loss for the Tomcats, surrendering four runs (three earned) on seven hits with 11 strikeouts and three walks.

Amy Mills (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) each recorded one hit and one RBI.
Waynesburg returns to action on Saturday, April 12, with a road conference doubleheader against Bethany College. The first game is slated for a 1 p.m. start in Bethany, W.Va.
