GROVE CITY, Pa. (April 12) – The Waynesburg University baseball team scored eight runs in the final two innings of Game 1 against Grove City College to take an 11-10 victory before suffering an 11-4 loss in the backend of Saturday's conference doubleheader.

In the opening game, the Yellow Jackets (14-15, 4-6) scored three runs in the top of the ninth to take an 11-8 lead. The Wolverines (8-9, 3-3 PAC) added a pair of runs in the ninth before sophomore Dan Novak (Rock Hill, S.C./Chartiers-Houston) picked off Butch Kriger at first base to end the game.

Sophomore Zac Rhoades (Washington, Pa./McGuffey) (5-2) earned the win in relief, allowing four runs on four hits in two-plus innings of work. Novak registered the final three outs of the game to post his second save of the season. Matt Tindall (1-1) was saddled with the loss for Grove City after allowing three unearned runs in 0.1 innings of relief.

Waynesburg started the late rally in the eighth with a leadoff homer by senior third baseman Ryan Group (Washington, Pa./McGuffey), his second of the season and the fifth of his career. The Yellow Jackets added four more runs in the inning, including two on a single by senior center fielder Brendon Steele (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan).

In the ninth, junior first baseman Brandon Dittmar (Strabane, Pa./Canon-McMillan) started the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a single by Novak. An error by Grove City on a fielder's choice allowed Dittmar to score, while Novak scored on a wild pitch. The final run of the inning came when senior outfielder Jerry Daley (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) scored on a passed ball.

Novak led the Waynesburg offense, going 3-for-4 with one double and three runs. Steele and sophomore right fielder Scott Cree (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg Central) each collected a pair of RBI in the victory.

In Game 2, Waynesburg held a 4-3 lead entering the eighth inning, but Grove City roughed up three pitchers for eight runs on eight hits and two walks to post the 11-4 comeback victory.

The Yellow Jackets scored their first two runs of the game in the third on a RBI single by Group and a RBI double by Novak. Waynesburg also plated two runs in the fourth on a two-run double by sophomore second baseman Wes White Jr (Pittsburgh, Pa./Perry), who went 2-for-5 to extend his hit streak to seven games.

Steele also posted a two-hit game in the nightcap.

Sophomore right-hander Bryan Leones (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) (2-5) was saddled with the loss for Waynesburg. He allowed five runs on 11 hits and four walks, while striking out four over 7.1 innings. Michael Herringshaw (3-3) earned the win after tossing three scoreless innings of relief for the Wolverines.
