BETHANY, W.Va. (April 12) – The Waynesburg University men's tennis team swept doubles play and won five singles matches to improve to 4-0 in conference play, as the Yellow Jackets dealt Bethany College (0-10, 0-5 PAC) an 8-1 defeat Saturday afternoon.
Waynesburg (6-4, 4-0 PAC) surrendered only a total of seven games in doubles play against the Bison. Junior

Jeff Canning (Cambridge, Ohio/Cambridge) posted an 8-6 victory over Dustin Opalka and Andrew McPherson at first doubles. At the second slot, freshmen
Steve Bold (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) and
Emile Khoury (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) defeated Chatham Gongola and Jason Straw by an 8-1 count. Junior
Drew Slater (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) and sophomore
Adam Woodruff (Hemlock, N.Y./Livonia) completed doubles play with an 8-0 sweep over Noah Townsend and Ryan Kemp at third doubles.
Canning topped McPherson at second singles by a 6-1, 6-1 count, while Khoury posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Straw at the third position. Bold defeated Gongola at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-0 and Woodruff added a 6-0, 6-0 win at fifth singles over Townsend. Senior
Will Porter (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) defeated Kemp by a 6-1, 6-1 margin at the sixth position for his first win in singles play this year.
Waynesburg returns to action on Tuesday, April 15, when it travels to face Marietta College in the final non-conference match of the season for the Yellow Jackets. First serve is set for 3 p.m. in Marietta, Ohio.
