SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (April 12) – Junior
Willy Herrington (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville) and freshman
Adam Swingle (Mont Clair, Va./Forest Park) both posted a pair of top-15 finishes on Saturday, as the Waynesburg University men's track & field team competed at the Slippery Rock Invitational.
Swingle broke his school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes 1.53 seconds to finish 12th overall in the 50-runner event. He also finished eighth in the 1500-meter run, crossing the finish line in 4:21.46.
Herrington finished fifth overall and third among non-scholarship athletes in the shot put with a throw of 45.05 feet (13.73 meters). The Connellsville native added a 15th-place showing in the discus throw with a heave of 125.26 feet (38.18 meters).
In the 3000-meter steeplechase, senior
Shane Gottschalk (Prosperity, Pa./McGuffey) placed sixth overall with a time of 10:52.63. Sophomore
Mike Harwick (Mt. Lebanon, Pa./Mount Lebanon) added a 15th-place finish in the mixed 10,000 run with a time of 39:12.57.
Waynesburg resumes competition on Saturday, April 19, at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) Open. Events are scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.
