SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (April 13) – Waynesburg University freshman
Elisha Jones (Russell, Pa./Eisenhower) captured the javelin title and junior
Ashley Dodd (Upper St. Clair, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and sophomore
April Loving (East McKeesport, Pa./East Allegheny) broke their own school records on Saturday at the Slippery Rock Invitational.
Jones continues to impress in her rookie season, winning the javelin throw for the fourth-straight time. The Eisenhower (Pa.) product won the event with a heave of 134.51 feet (41.0 meters), topping throws by several scholarship athletes.
Dodd posted a second-place finish in the pole vault, clearing a school-record 12.01 feet (3.66 meters). Her height was behind only the mark set by Slippery Rock's Jen Hansen, who finished in second place at the Division II Track & Field Championships last season.
Loving broke her outdoor 100-meter school record mark with a time of 12.77 seconds on Saturday. She finished ninth overall in a field of 46 sprinters with the record-setting time. Loving set the previous record at 12.93 seconds on Thursday at the Geneva College Quadrangular.
Junior
Megan Grover (Arvada, Col./Faith Christian) placed second overall in the 5000-meter run, rounding the track in 18 minutes 35.05 seconds. She finished the race just 23 seconds behind the overall leader, Anna Yoney of the University of Pittsburgh. Grover also added a third-place finish in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:52.13.
In addition to Jones in the javelin, junior
Amanda Staudt (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) placed fourth in the event with a throw of 122.80 feet (37.43 meters).
Also posting top-15 finishes for Waynesburg were sophomore
Melissa Cox (Waynesburg, Pa./Jefferson-Morgan) in the 800-meter run; freshman
Becki Friedline (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) in the javelin; junior
Becca Geisel (Uniontown, Pa./Uniontown) in the triple jump; senior
Haley Hinds (Moon Twp., Pa./Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) in the 3000-meter steeplechase; and freshman Michaeline Macosko (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) in the 400-meter hurdles.
Waynesburg resumes competition on Saturday, April 19, at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) Open. Events are scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.
