Waynesburg sweeps Chatham in conference twin bill

WAYNESBURG (April 15) – The Waynesburg University softball team swept a home doubleheader against Chatham University on Tuesday in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play, winning 8-0 and 15-5.

The Yellow Jackets improve to 11-13 overall and 5-3 in the PAC with the victories, while the Cougars fall to 8-18 overall and 1-9 in league play after being swept in the doubleheader.

In Game 1, junior right-hander Autumn Minor (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg Central) (7-5) tossed her fourth complete-game shutout of the season, allowing just two hits over six innings, fanning three and walking none. Chatham starter Samantha Nicholson (0-9) was saddled with loss, allowing eight runs (six earned) in five-plus innings.

Freshman third baseman Amanda Baughman (Washington, Pa./Washington) led the Yellow Jackets with three hits and two RBI in the opener. Junior catcher Kristyn Klueg (East Northport, N.Y./John H. Glenn) scored two runs and collected two RBI, while freshman center fielder Amber Pivik (Washington, Pa./Washington) also scored two runs.

In the second game, Baughman (3-5) earned the win after leaving the game with a 13-0 lead. Fellow freshman Kristen Lautenschlager (Pittsburgh, Pa./Carlynton) and junior Karina Graziani (Confluence, Pa./Turkeyfoot Valley) each tossed two innings of relief for Waynesburg. Cougars' starter Paige Dunlap (0-1) took the loss after throwing five innings.

Pivik and freshman left fielder Samantha Melone (Washington, Pa./Canon-McMillan) each collected three RBI. Pivik went 1-for-3 with her second homer of the season, two runs and three RBI. Junior shortstop Haley Kramer (Ellwood City, Pa./Laurel) scored three runs, while Baughman drove in two runs.

A total of 14 different Waynesburg players scored runs in the nightcap with seven players posting a RBI.

Waynesburg returns to action at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, in Monaca, Pa., with a road doubleheader against Penn State-Beaver.
