BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (April 22) – The Waynesburg University softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep by Geneva College on Tuesday afternoon, falling 4-1 in the first game and 7-2 in the nightcap.

In Game 1, Golden Tornadoes' hurler Rebekah Wahl (12-4) earned the victory, scattering one run on three hits and one walk with eight strikeouts in seven innings. Waynesburg starter Autumn Minor (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg Central) (9-7) was saddled with the loss after throwing a six-inning complete game, scattering eight hits, allowing four runs (three earned), fanning six and walking none.

Geneva jumped out to early lead in the first inning, using a pair of hits and two Yellow Jacket errors to plate two runs. The Golden Tornadoes tacked on two more runs in the fifth on three hits, a wild pitch and an error. The Yellow Jackets avoided the shutout by scoring a run in the top of the seventh. Minor opened the inning with a triple before scoring on a RBI ground-out by junior first baseman Karina Graziani (Confluence, Pa./Turkeyfoot Valley).

Waynesburg freshman Amanda Baughman (Washington, Pa./Washington) (5-7) suffered the loss for the Yellow Jackets in Game 2 after allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits in four innings. Junior Ashley Archer (12-8) earned the win after tossing a two-hit, complete game with nine strikeouts.

The Golden Tornadoes plated two runs in the first on two hits and an error to take an early lead. Geneva added three runs in top of the third before Waynesburg countered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Senior right fielder Amy Mills (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) drew a one-out walk before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Sophomore shortstop Haley Kramer (Ellwood City, Pa./Laurel) then reached base on an error that allowed Mills to advance to third. Another Golden Tornadoes' error allowed Mills to score before Baughman collected a two-out, RBI single that scored Kramer. However, Geneva added an insurance run in both the fifth and seventh to take the 7-2 victory.

Waynesburg returns to action on Friday, April 25, when it hosts Thomas More College for a 3 p.m. conference doubleheader in the final games of the regular season for the Yellow Jackets.
