WASHINGTON, Pa. (April 24) – The Yellow Jackets finished their inaugural varsity season on Thursday night with a 16-3 loss against Washington & Jefferson College at Alexandre Stadium.
The game featured a match-up of two local first-year independent programs. The Yellow Jackets concluded their inaugural season with a 0-10 record, while the Presidents finish the year at 3-8.
Senior goalkeeper
Laura Rayle (Wind Ridge, Pa./West Greene) broke her own school record with 28 saves against W&J, who attempted 50 shots. She collected 18 saves in the opening period against the Presidents. The 28 saves by Rayle ranks as the highest single-game total in the NCAA Division III entering the week. She entered this week ranked No. 7 in the country with 13.0 saves per game.
The Presidents took a 3-0 lead in the opening six minutes of the game before sophomore
Heather Quinlisk (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season (unassisted) with 22:05 left in the first period. W&J eventually worked its lead to 6-1 with 8:18 left before halftime. The Yellow Jackets narrowed the deficit with 5:33 left before the break on a goal by junior

Caitlin Malay (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park). However, the Presidents responded with a goal less than 30 seconds later and added another tally with under a minute left in the period to take an 8-2 lead into halftime.
After W&J opened the second period with a goal, Malay recorded her third goal of the season on a free-position shot with 25:24 left in the game. The Presidents then rallied off seven unanswered points to close with the 16-3 victory.
The Yellow Jackets collected 15 ground balls in the contest, including 12 in the first period. Sophomore
Leigh Palmer (Union City, Pa./Union City) paced the defensive attack with a single-game school record of five ground balls to increase her team-best total to 24.
Waynesburg attempted 14 shots against W&J, including nine shots on goal – the Yellow Jackets' second-highest total of the season. Senior
Lindsay Mamuszka (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) led the offensive attack with four shot attempts, including three shots on goals.
The game marked the final collegiate contest for the trio of
Amanda Hoffman (Tewksbury, N.J./Vorhees), Mamuszka and Rayle.
Notes:
Waynesburg was scheduled to close its inaugural season with a game against Lancaster Bible College on Saturday, April 26, at John F. Wiley Stadium. However, due to a limited number of players the Chargers were forced to cancel the game.
