WASHINGTON, Pa. (April 5) – Freshman Adam Swingle (Mont Clair, Va./Forest Park) set the school record in the 1500-meter run on Saturday, as the Yellow Jackets competed at Cameron Stadium in the Washington & Jefferson College Invitational.

Swingle set the school-best mark with a time of 4 minutes 12.73 seconds in the 48-runner field. His time at the W&J Invitational was almost 10 seconds faster than his performance last weekend in the event. Swingle now holds the school record in the both and 800 and 1500 meters.

Freshman Trale Merz (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler) posted a top-15 finish in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing the race in 1:02.07. Fellow freshman Jeremy Faidley (Meyersdale, Pa./Meyersdale) finished in 14th place in the shot put with a heave of 40.65 feet (12.39 meters).

Senior Nick Staffieri (Belle Vernon, Pa./Geibel Catholic) placed 13th overall in the long jump with a leap of 19.62 feet (5.98 meters).

Carnegie Mellon University won the team invitational title with 144 points, while Penn State-Behrend (126) was the only other institution with 100-plus points at the 16-team event.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, April 9, in Beaver Falls, Pa., for the Geneva College Quadrangular. Events are scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. start.
